Little Mashers 2017 Update16 Feb 2017 by Clare Tomlinson
Its February and we can’t believe how quickly the last year has gone. Since April 2016 St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex has been the new Little Mashers HQ. We love it here and have received the warmest of welcomes.
Our studio now comprises of a printing studio where we design and produce our clothes, gifts and products, and then there’s the shop, a lovely space where we can sell not only all our Masher goods, but items from other cool british brands, many of them local designers. Below are some pics of our studio/shop in all its glory!
St Leonards and Hastings are like no other towns. They love to celebrate and since we have been here we have witnessed many many festivals, from the Jack in the Green festival, The Pirate festival, St Leonards festival and the Frost fair to name but a very few. The people around here love to celebrate, and of course we like to celebrate too, so we opened our doors to kids of all ages and ran print workshops to coincide with them.
At the end of November, we took part in the St Leonards Frost Fair, running a tee-shirt and Christmas stocking printing workshop and generally soaking up the celebratory atmosphere in our new seaside home. Kings Road outdid itself this year, with market stalls, street food, mulled wine and churros, carolers singing the old classics and of course, a huge procession of local people dressed in their winter finest… led by a giant Polar Bear! That’s just the kind of town we’ve moved to… We took some pictures of the parade and the magnificent lights that were switched on at the end of the day. Aren’t they beautiful? And right outside our window!
Our screenprinting workshops have been a great success, from the St Leonards Festival and Frost Fair to our spooky Halloween glow in the dark workshop in October. Back in Sept we also had 16 GCSE students from London at the studio, learning the basics of screenprinting to compliment part of their GCSE studies. Some of the participants had never visited the seaside before and had never seen the sea! They loved it, and hopefully will be back again in the near future.
We are planning more workshops in the coming year and are very excited to be working alongside the Jerwood Gallery in delivering a series of screenprinting workshops as part of their educational programme. The first one of these will be held at Easter. We will send out further information nearer the time.
The new year has been pretty eventful so far with Playtime Paris Trade show back in January. We met lots of old and new customers and are excited to be stocking our items in lots of new parts of the world. We have added lots of new designs to our existing popular ranges and introduced some new products. All of which have been very well received. Below are some pics of our latest collection taken by a lovely local photographer Veronique Leplat, check her out on Instagram @veroniqueleplatphotography
We want to thank you all for your support so far; remember, whenever you buy from a small independent business, an actual person does a little happy dance! We have been very lucky to have been so warmly greeted in our new hometown and can’t wait for the rest of the year to unfold.
Next time you take a trip to the seaside, come down and visit us! We’re only a hop, skip and a jump from the train station…
